"Eastern Pine A" is part of a breath-led drawing practice made in silence from two specific trees—an Eastern white pine in Maine and a spruce in New York City. Rooted in the Hellenic concept of Pneuma—breath as the vital force—these marks are not depictions but transcriptions: the body's own branching interior responding directly to the tree's presence. When Canadian forest fires send smoke across New York City, the air becomes too thick to breathe outdoors, making a practice built on breath and direct contact with living trees suddenly and literally impossible. What climate change takes from the body is not abstract. Each panel records its own duration—a conversation between one body, one breath, and one living tree.
